Marrying Into The Family For My Sister

Chapter 1 Marrying Into The Family For My Sister

“Do you expect me to marry that paralyzed man in Selene’s place? Absolutely not!”

Rachel Christoff couldn’t believe the absurd situation she had encountered upon returning to the Christoff Family.

Her father, Michael Christoff looked concerned. “Rachel, please consider it. I went through a lot of trouble to bring you back from the countryside. Your sister is already engaged to the young master of the Xanders. You wouldn’t want her to betray him, would you?”

“This has nothing to do with me!” Rachel firmly refused.

Ever since her stepmother Queenie Henderson married into the family, her father had sent her and her grandmother to the countryside and never visited.

If Rachel hadn’t taken matters into her own hands, she would have starved on the streets.

“Rachel, I advise you not to be shameless. Being able to marry into the powerful and influential Fuller Family with your background is something you should be grateful for. Don’t get arrogant.”

Queenie’s delicate face was filled with estrangement. If it weren’t for the young master of the Fullers being paralyzed, how could such a good opportunity fall into the hands of her?

Rachel, despite being raised in the countryside, didn’t lack sophistication. Instead, she exuded an extraordinary and ethereal aura. Her petite face was as smooth as jade, with delicate features. Even a woman would be captivated by her appearance, let alone a man.

Rachel sneered. Powerful and influential? With her current abilities, buying the entire city would be a piece of cake. She didn’t need to rely on any man.

“Even if I have to marry him, you’re not the one calling the shots here.”

Her delicate features and exceptional appearance made her stand out. Her skin was tender. However, behind this innocent-looking girl, her eyes were exceptionally sharp.

“How dare you speak to your stepmother like this!”

Along with Michael’s accusation came a slap, landing heavily on Rachel’s face.

She covered her painful face, her eyes shining even brighter.

Queenie took out a few photos from her bag. “These are the places your grandmother visited during those days. The last location is the Fuller Residence. If you want her death to remain a mystery, you can choose not to marry.”

Rachel looked at the silhouette of her grandmother in the photo, her chest filled with anger. She clenched her fist tightly. She didn’t care who she married; even without a man, she could still live on. But with her grandmother’s death, she had to thoroughly investigate it.

She took a deep breath. “Alright, I’ll marry.”

Queenie smiled triumphantly and approached Rachel. She raised her hand, ready to pat her on the shoulder, but Rachel coldly dodged it.

“Heh… You wouldn’t have been slapped if you had just said yes. Don’t worry; by marrying into the family, you won’t lose out. At least in terms of material wealth, you’ll live a good life.”

She had long known that the old lady was Rachel’s weak spot. Coincidentally, she had visited the Fullers before she died.

Even if someone from the Fullers had caused her death, it had nothing to do with Queenie. As long as Rachel was willing to marry, everything would be fine.

Rachel swore in her heart that she would definitely find out the true cause of her grandmother’s death and bring the culprit to justice.

As for this slap, she would remember it.

The next morning, Michael sent a driver to drop Rachel off at the entrance of the Fuller’s house. Due to time constraints, he didn’t have a chance to see how Rachel was dressed.

The people from the Fullers were already waiting at the door. When they saw Rachel, the butler, Johnson, almost had his glasses fall off his nose.

What kind of girl did the master want the young master to marry? She’s homely!

Chapter 2 The Plain Daughter-in-law

Not only did she wear black-framed glasses that covered half of her face, but she also had dark, freckled skin. She wore a floral top and loose black bell-bottom pants, giving off a rustic vibe.

If it weren’t for him knowing the driver from the Christoffs, he would have thought that this girl had walked into the wrong house.

Still, it was the master who personally arranged this marriage. Although he disliked this woman from the bottom of his heart, he still had to put on a show. “Come with me to meet the young master first.”

Johnson led Rachel inside. Rachel looked around and found that the interior was quite impressive. The decoration seemed understated, but every piece of the residence must have been made from expensive materials.

They came to the great hall. Johnson stopped and turned around.

“I should tell you about the young master’s situation. He got into a car crash earlier in the year and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. He feels nothing from the waist down, so I hope you will take good care of him.

“Also, the young master has a bad temper. It’s better not to provoke him, or even the master won’t be able to save you. And—”

“Is that all? If you’re done, just tell me which room he’s in,” Rachel interrupted Johnson coldly. She didn’t like listening to people ramble on. Perhaps it was because of her usual way of doing things, as she liked to get straight to the point.

Johnson was stunned, staring at Rachel in surprise. When Rachel glanced at him, Johnson felt a chill run down his spine.

How could this simple girl have such a gaze? It’s just a calm, clear gaze, but somehow, you could sense the determination within.

When he snapped out of it and realized that he was still the butler here, he cleared his throat. “I am the housekeeper here. I am in charge when the master is not around. If you need anything, feel free to ask.”

The implication was that besides the master of the Fullers, he held the highest authority, so Rachel should speak to him more politely.

However, Rachel didn’t buy into it. “Just tell me which room it is, and I’ll go in myself.”

Johnson didn’t expect this woman’s actions. They were unpredictable. She looked shabby, far below any member of the Fullers, and spoke with such arrogance. Her eyes were clear and pure, yet they exuded an invincible aura.

He lowered his head and took Rachel upstairs, pushing open the door. A strong smell of disinfectant hit them, and it was pitch black inside. Despite the bright sunshine outside, there was a chilling atmosphere that made one shiver involuntarily.

She turned to Johnson and asked, “Why don’t you open the curtains and let fresh air in? It would help the patient recover better.”

Johnson curled up and coughed violently. How dare you comment on how I do things in the young master’s presence.

“Our young master doesn’t like sunlight, so he orders us to keep the curtains closed every day. You’re just married to him and don’t know much yet, so it’s better not to interfere too much.”

Besides, what does a girl like her know?

Rachel had never heard that keeping sunlight away could cure illnesses. She heard that the Fullers’ master had sought help from numerous famous hospitals and even alternative medicine practitioners. He really wants Jonathan to get back on his feet soon.

He’s lucky he met me. I’ve learned some alternative medicine from my mentor since I was a child. I know acupuncture well. I can give it a try. But I have to check his details before I can do anything. Grandma did tell me to keep a low profile, no matter where I go, and never show my true skills to anyone.

She turned to Johnson and said, “Johnson, you can leave first. I want to have a private conversation with my husband.”

“But…” Johnson looked as if he had seen a ghost. Are girls this… forward now? She hasn’t even seen Master Jonathan, and she’s already calling him her husband?

Rachel saw that he was still standing there without moving and deliberately teased, “What’s wrong, Johnson? Are you planning to stay and enjoy the show?”

Chapter 3 Desperate Measures

Jonathan Fuller, lying on the bed, did not expect this girl to dare to speak to Johnson like that. Everyone in the Fuller Family knew that Johnson had been with them since he was young and was considered a respected elder. Besides the master, no one dared to offend him.

She’s either very brave or foolish.

Grandpa said that it was supposed to be the Christoffs’ second daughter marrying me. However, after a recent medical checkup, they found out that Selene might be infertile. Grandpa would never agree to let a barren woman marry into the family.

And this girl was switched in. If I ignore her appearance and just judge from the voice alone, I would think she was a beautiful lady.

He covered his mouth and coughed, “Johnson, please leave.”

“But, Master Jonathan, she—”

“Leave!”

Although his voice sounded calm, Rachel felt a bone-chilling coldness. She couldn’t help but turn her head to look at the man on the bed.

The man sat upright on the bed, his black shirt accentuating his sculpted and cold face, unable to hide his noble and aloof demeanor.

Even though his lower body was paralyzed, his majesty remained undiminished. Rachel admired this about him.

If she could get him to tell her about the situation in the Fullers, she might be able to find out the cause of her grandmother’s death, and her purpose for coming here would be achieved.

Once she found out the truth, she could figure out a way to leave.

Johnson couldn’t intervene any further and respectfully left, closing the door behind him.

The room fell into darkness once again, and Rachel felt uncomfortable. She asked Jonathan, “Can we open the curtains?”

“No,” he refused without hesitation. His voice was deep and husky, as if it could strike someone’s heart.

“Don’t you think it’s gloomy like this?” Combined with the cold air emanating from him, she felt like she was freezing to death.

The man sneered, “Isn’t this good? I don’t want to see you, and you don’t want to see me.”

Rachel retorted, “But we’ll have to see each other every day in the future. Do you plan to keep it like this forever?”

Avoidance was not the solution.

“Besides, how can I treat your legs like this?”

A hint of surprise flickered in Jonathan’s inky eyes.

“You can treat my legs?”

Rachel shrugged modestly, “I can give it a try.”

She agreed to treat Jonathan’s leg because she wanted him to owe her a favor so that he could help investigate her grandmother’s cause of death. No one else in the Fuller Family knew about this better than him.

Jonathan hadn’t seen the sunlight for several months. Ever since he was told he couldn’t walk anymore, he had been isolating himself in his room, numbing himself.

Can this woman really cure me? Grandpa tried to ask a lot of hospitals and doctors for help, but they failed.

Thinking of this, the light in his eyes dimmed once again.

“Forget it; my leg can’t be cured even by renowned doctors. How can you cure it?”

Instead of holding onto false hope, it would be better to give up from the start.

Rachel could understand him. It was hard to find out that one would be bedridden if one were so handsome too.

She confidently raised her eyebrows.

“You won’t lose anything by letting me try. What if this desperate attempt actually works?”

Jonathan glanced at her coldly. “I’m not desperate.”

Rachel knew that Jonathan had a bad temper. She had to cajole him.

She smiled brightly, tapping herself.

“I am. I am, okay?”

Jonathan was actually curious to see how capable this girl was.

“So, what’s your plan now?”

“Just wait a moment…”

Rachel took out a small package from her suitcase. When she opened it, Jonathan saw that it was full of silver needles of different thicknesses. Is she actually skilled?

When Rachel walked up to Jonathan with the needles and lowered her head to examine his leg, Jonathan finally saw her face clearly.

Jonathan couldn’t help but sigh. Grandpa, what did you get me? She’s… homely.

Rachel was only focused on Jonathan’s legs. It was hard to treat. This wasn’t regular paralysis.

She needed to treat him for a while and observe the results. She raised her gaze and finally had the chance to take a good look at him.

Perfect facial features, highly aggressive, with a predominantly Western contour, strong lines, and a strong masculine temperament. The sharp aura exuded from him gave off a natural sense of nobility and distance.

Pity he’s paralyzed, but meeting him is good fortune in and of itself.

“Well, I’m going to start acupuncture now. It might hurt a bit, so bear with it.”

“Wait a minute,” Jonathan looked at the needles, and he gulped, and he looked at Rachel with doubt, “Do you have a medical license?”

Rachel was stunned. Medical license? I’m a professor-level expert, and if he really wants me to treat him, he would probably have to wait for several months.

But with how I’m looking right now, Jonathan would definitely not believe me.

“I left my license back in the village, but don’t worry, I can treat this illness.”

When she took out the first needle, her hand trembled, and she almost dropped it on the ground.

“Sorry, sorry. It’s been a long time since I last gave someone acupuncture, so I’m a bit nervous.”

Jonathan’s face was gloomy. Nervousness? Could she be some kind of quack?

Rachel picked up the needle and was about to insert it when Jonathan suddenly grabbed her wrist.

She looked at him in astonishment, her eyebrows raised.

“You need to understand that I have searched for famous doctors for this leg. I have consulted almost all the doctors inside and outside the nation. Do you think you can treat them with your limited skills?”

Rachel questioned, “Are you sure you have searched for all the famous doctors?”

You’ve missed me, after all.

Speaking of this, Jonathan did remember that there was indeed one they missed. His grandfather said that this doctor was rarely present, but they’d become a professor at a young age. They were a genius in the medical field.

Many medical schools were interested in hiring her as the deputy dean, but they declined the offers.

They were an enigmatic individual.

I think she has the same last name as this woman, but I can’t recall her full name.

What does this have to do with her, though?

Observing him lost in contemplation, Rachel didn’t want to waste any more time. She lightly slapped his leg.

“Let’s not waste any more time.”

Afterwards, she took the needle and aimed for his acupoints, including ST-36, ST-40, GB-31, and several others. When she finished, Jonathan glanced at Rachel and observed that the needle placements were precise.

Even without any knowledge of medical techniques, the spots where the previous doctors had inserted needles were comparable to where this girl had placed them.

I’ve seen many doctors, and they all failed. It’s worth giving her a try.

Right as Rachel completed the needle insertions, someone abruptly entered the room.

“Jonathan…”
